Best Things to Do in Miami: A Florida Local’s Guide

Written by Abby Joseph

I recently took a trip down to Miami with my best friend from college. We had the time of our lives! The weather was beautiful, the food was delicious, and there was never a dull moment.

If you’re thinking about planning a trip to Miami, or if you’re just curious about what the city has to offer, then read on for my list of the best things to do in Miami.

1. Visit South Beach

If you’re looking for a place to soak up some sun and people-watch, South Beach is the place for you. Grab a drink from one of the many beachside bars and restaurants and find a spot on the sand to relax. Don’t forget your sunscreen!

2. Take a stroll down Ocean Drive

Ocean Drive is one of Miami’s most iconic streets. It’s lined with art deco hotels and is home to some of the best nightlife in the city. Be sure to stop by The Clevelander for a drink or two.

3. Visit Vizcaya Museum and Gardens

Vizcaya is an estate that was built in the early 1900s by industrialist James Deering. Today, it is open to the public as a museum and garden. It’s definitely worth spending an afternoon exploring this beautiful piece of history.

4. Shop till you drop on Lincoln Road

Lincoln Road is one of Miami’s best shopping districts. There are stores to suit every taste and budget, as well as plenty of restaurants and cafes if you need a break from all the shopping.

5. See a show at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts

The Arsht Center is one of Miami’s premiere venues for live music and theater. Check their website to see what shows are playing during your visit.

6. Explore Wynwood

Wynwood is Miami’s arts district. It’s filled with street art, galleries, shops, and restaurants. It’s the perfect place to spend an afternoon if you’re looking for something a little different from the usual tourist traps . . . which brings me to my next point . . .

7. Avoid tourist traps like the plague

There’s nothing worse than being stuck in line at some overpriced tourist trap while on vacation. In Miami, some of the worst offenders are Jungle Island, Bayside Marketplace, and Marlins Park ( unless you’re actually there to watch a game.) Do yourself a favor and steer clear of these places if at all possible.

8. Go see Little Havana

Little Havana is one of Miami’s most vibrant neighborhoods. It’s full of Cuban culture, good food, and cigars. And be sure to check out Calle Ocho while you’re there!

9. Take a ride on The Duck Tour

The Duck Tour is a great way to see all that Miami has to offer. You’ll get an up-close look at both the city skyline and the beaches as you ride around in an amphibious vehicle. Trust me, it’s more fun than it sounds!

10. And last but not least, have a mojito (or two)

No trip to Miami would be complete without indulging in a classic mojito. Whether you’re enjoying one by the pool or sipping on one at a trendy bar, make sure you savor every last drop.

So there you have it, my list of the best things to do in Miami. I hope you have as much fun as I did!
